Malaysian expedition makes a detour to Coruscant
Latthalilat Thamplom, Monyet News Network, 17 January 2012
Putrajaya, 17 January. The Malaysians have landed at Coruscant. After an arduous flight over 56 days, the POMJOM1 spacecraft Bahtera Suria, touched down at the blue planet at 0830 hours local time. The crew are reported to be safe and the spacecraft unscathed despite passing through the Rosma14 asteroid field just outside the Coruscant upper atmosphere.
According to Tan Sri Dr Chris Farid Merican, the Rector of Aeronautics and Space Agency Malaysia (ASAM), the detour to Coruscant was authorised by the agency upon request by the expedition leader. The detour was deemed necessary to replenish supplies as well as to establish diplomatic ties with the ruler of Coruscant.
“We received a request from Bahtera Suria last week, seeking a short detour to Coruscant to replenish supplies. The agency studied at all aspects of safety, weather, mission schedule as well as national interests before allowing the detour. The Government also felt that the visit to Coruscant might enable Malaysia to establish a diplomatic relationship with Coruscant, which is located rather strategically along the interplanetary trade route. Our Foreign Minister has been in touch with his counterpart at Coruscant” said Dr Merican.
Dr Merican also added “by the way, the crew is safe and in good health. I received a message from Bobo this morning and he said the mission has gone on like clockwork. The spacecraft has proven to be very reliable and the Malaysian-designed heat-shield is holding up very well. According to Bobo, there are only minor problems onboard which the crew is trying to rectify. Two of the 6 toilets onboard are clogged and the santan they brought along has gone stale – so no nasi lemak for the crew until they return to Earth”.
It is understood that the crew will stay in Coruscant for 48 hours, giving them just enough time to obtain fresh supplies including fuel and spare parts. It is not known whether the crew will be able to get fresh supplies of santan.
MNN has also learnt that all 32 members of the POMJOM1 crew are scheduled to have an audience with Chancellor Palpatine, the supreme ruler of Coruscant, to negotiate for supplies and a meaningful diplomatic link.
Meanwhile, in Putrajaya, the Prime Minister’s office issued a statement saying that Tuesday might be a public holiday if the negotiations with Chancellor Palpatine go on well. A spokesperson from the PM’s office said “this is not only about Malaysia. Our 32 men and women are ambassadors for the entire planet. We might even declare a public holiday for the whole world”.
